Urban Research Toolkit
The Urban Research Toolkit (URT) is an open-source, online mapping platform that offers new research approaches in the humanities, social sciences and design. It is a tool for education and the dissemination of new models for the scholarly investigation of urban space through a variety of media and methodologies.
Created by a team of designers, and programmers at XYZlab at Parsons the New School for Design, URT creates new opportunities for cooperative research within a user-friendly interface across thematic layers of urban locations. The flexible design of the database makes URT an ideal toolkit for researching, visualizing information and analyzing a range of content, including data, primary documents, text, images, audio, and video.
Designed for use both inside and outside the classroom, URT offers the ability to create thematic layers within and between projects, which can range from mapping archival documents to sensing informal data flows to visualizing urban narratives.
